China vs Cambodia denim manufacturing:
which country fits your order?
The question for this denim manufacturing order is not which country is cheaper. It is which country of manufacture fits the order: China, Cambodia, or a split across both.
Top Mondial manufactures in both. One plant in Zhejiang, China, opened in 2003. Two plants in Cambodia followed in the 2022 expansion.
This page compares fabric and trims, wash and finishing, lead time, MOQ, shipping, and how duty is treated. It does not quote tariff rates. Those depend on your destination market.
Brands often split a programme across both plants rather than picking one country forever.
Why brands compare China and Cambodia for denim
Diversifying away from a single-country supply is a sourcing decision. It is not a quality ranking of apparel factories in China against a garment factory in Cambodia.
Top Mondial's documented reason for the 2022 Cambodia move is capacity and supply-chain flexibility.
This page compares country of manufacture for a denim programme. Partner-selection checks — capability, QC systems, communication — live in how to choose a denim manufacturer.
A Chinese clothing company can still sew in Cambodia. Origin follows where the garment is made. See our factories.
If you also need a manufacturing model, read OEM vs ODM denim manufacturing. This page does not re-teach that distinction.
China vs Cambodia denim manufacturing: the honest comparison
Two cards, one per country. The rows are typical factors, not a quote. MOQ differs by country: 500 pieces in China, 2,000 pieces in Cambodia. Average bulk lead time is a company figure, not a country split. Confirm fabric wait, inbound logistics and duty treatment with the factory and official sources for your market. For wash types, not a country ranking, see custom denim washes.
China (Zhejiang)
Own production base since 2003. Changxing plant, Huzhou, Zhejiang — Top Mondial Garment Co. Ltd. Close to the mill network the site already claims: a dedicated fabric sourcing department and long-term partnerships with more than 20 fabric mills.
Fabric and trims
- Mill proximity and an established denim fabric supply for apparel factories in China
- Ask which mill will supply this order; do not assume a named mill
Wash and finishing
- In-house wash is a company capability across facilities, not a China-only line
- Wash types live in the custom denim washes guide, not in a country ranking
Lead time
- The site publishes one company average for bulk, not a China-only number
- Nearby mills may shorten fabric wait — a factor to ask about, not a promised number of days
MOQ
- 500 pieces. Ask whether that is per style or per colour
Shipping
- Typical export is ocean freight from Chinese ports to the UK or US. Confirm transit with the factory; this page does not quote days
Trade and duty
- Country of origin is China for goods made there
- Duty treatment follows the destination's tariff schedule. Check official UK or US customs sources. This page does not state rates
Cambodia (Kandal and Takeo)
2022 expansion. Qixin Co. Ltd. Two plants, 52,000 m², and over 1,500 employees on the company story line. Plants in Kandal Province and Takeo Province.
Fabric and trims
- Fabric may still be sourced through the same mill network and shipped to the Cambodian plants
- Treat inbound fabric as a logistics factor. Confirm it with the factory; this page does not invent local mill capacity
Wash and finishing
- Full lifecycle including washing is claimed for the facilities as a group
- Do not assume a weaker Cambodian wash line. Confirm the wash route on this order
Lead time
- Same company average for bulk, not a Cambodia-only number
- Extra time can come from fabric inbound to Cambodia — a question for the factory, not a number on this page
MOQ
- 2,000 pieces. Ask whether that is per style or per colour
Shipping
- Ocean export from Cambodian or regional ports to the UK or US. Confirm the port and transit with the factory
Trade and duty
- Origin is Cambodia when the garment is made there
- Treatment differs by destination. Check official customs sources for the UK or US. No rates on this page
What each country is best at for denim
This is about programme fit, not a secret capability the other plant lacks. Only the documented setup and typical sourcing logic sit here. It is not China as premium and Cambodia as basic.
China is usually the fit when
Development sits next to fabric decisions. The brand wants the 2003 Zhejiang base and mill-side iteration. The order's origin should be China. The MOQ is 500 pieces.
When fabric spec drives the choice, read denim fabric weights explained.
Cambodia is usually the fit when
The brand wants capacity and a second country of origin. The 2022 plants in Kandal and Takeo are the production home. Supply-chain diversification is the point of the order. The MOQ is 2,000 pieces.
Split the programme when
Core styles stay in one plant. Overflow, a second origin, or a later drop goes to the other. One tech pack still governs both. The next section shows how that works in practice.
Why brands split denim production between China and Cambodia
The Cambodia move in 2022 added manufacturing capacity and supply-chain flexibility. That is the published reason, not a slogan.
Split origin can reduce single-country concentration without changing the brand's spec.
Same owner, same QC language, two plants: one in Zhejiang and two in Cambodia. That is the operational point of Top Mondial's footprint.
A split is not two unrelated vendors. Buying China from one factory and Cambodia from another invites communication and QC drift. The model here is one manufacturer.
How a split-country denim programme works in practice
One tech pack covers both plants: fabric, construction, wash, measurements and trims. See what is a denim tech pack.
The diagram shows the path from tech pack review to quality control. The path is the same whichever plant sews.
Plant assignment happens after the spec is locked. Capacity, the origin the buyer wants, and fabric inbound decide which plant runs which styles. This page does not describe a booking system.
Shared QC standards apply. Once you approve a sample, fabric, construction, wash and finish details are locked into the tech pack that governs the full production run. Inline quality control runs through production, and each order has a final audit before dispatch.
Sampling still happens before bulk. See denim sampling explained. Developing a sample and shipping it typically takes around 7 days. That is a company figure, not a per-country one.
Lock the spec once
The tech pack and the approved sample are the same document for both plants. Fabric, construction, wash, measurements and trims do not get a local rewrite.
Assign the plant
China, Cambodia, or both styles in one order family. If origin matters for duty, the buyer states a preferred origin. Plant assignment happens after the spec is locked, not before.
Produce to the same QC
Inline checks and a final audit run against the approved sample. Neither plant reinterprets the locked spec.
Ship on the route that matches origin
China-origin and Cambodia-origin cartons are not mixed into one origin claim. The buyer confirms Incoterms.
Payment staging is not country-specific. For new FOB customers, Top Mondial typically works with a 30% deposit and a 70% balance before shipment. See payment terms explained.
Top Mondial's China and Cambodia factories
In 2022 Top Mondial founded Qixin Co. Ltd. in Cambodia, expanding the manufacturing footprint with a 52,000 m² facility and a 2,000+ workforce, further boosting manufacturing capacity and supply-chain flexibility.
The two Cambodian plants sit at Koh Knor Village, Prek Rokar Commune, Kandal Province, and Treuy Tonlob Village, Preah Bat Choan Chum Commune, Takeo Province. The China plant is Top Mondial Garment Co. Ltd. at Changxing, Huzhou, Zhejiang, opened in 2003.
Across the group there are three industrial parks, 150,000 m², and 2,000+ skilled workers in China and Cambodia.
OEM and ODM run in both countries. MOQ is 500 pieces in China and 2,000 pieces in Cambodia. Certificates include ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and BSCI; those certificates are company-level, not a per-country split.
Tour the sites on factories. The 2022 milestone sits on about. For the partner checklist, read how to choose a denim manufacturer.
